Can I serve the document at work?

Short answer is yes. The preferred way is to serve at home. It is far less embarrassing, which could be a point brought up at a trial. At the recipient's home the process server has the option of leaving the document with another adult (alternate service) and also acquiring knowledge about the recipient i.e. who else is there, vehicles in the yard, phone numbers, etc. At work we cannot leave the document with someone else and we run the risk of not ever getting the person to present himself there or at home once they are tipped off about us showing up at work
